About Us
Who Are We?
We are a group of people who just cannot get enough of ping pong. Some of us have played as high as semi-professional level, while others simply play for fun when we have time.
But what we all have in common is a high level of expertise in the sport. We achieved this through years of training and product testing.
Ping Pong Ruler is a part of VentureKite.
Our Mission
Our fundamental mission is to educate players of all levels to improve their game.
We understand the difficulties of diving head-first into this complex sport and when researching equipment, it can be a little intimidating.
We also felt this way when we started. After seeking knowledge on the internet, we soon discovered that online resources weren’t as helpful as they could be. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there. And deciphering the good apart from the bad can be difficult as a beginner.
That’s why Ping Pong Ruler was born. We knew that if we were experiencing issues, a lot of other people must be too. Fuelled with our expert knowledge, we strive to educate players in any way we can to help them on their table tennis journey.
Product reviews have formed the foundation of this approach. Frankly, manufacturers often do a dreadful job describing their equipment, especially for non-customized bats. They will exaggerate the quality of their gear which costs you hard-earned money. Not fun.
However, we are constantly expanding our content beyond product reviews. We have guides tackling types of shots, and player profiles detailing the journeys of some of the top table tennis professionals. If it can help improve your table tennis skills, we will write about it.
How Do We Review?
We take great care to review each product in a methodical, unbiased way. You put a lot of trust in us to review fairly, and we would never tarnish that.
We review each product exhaustively through the means we have at our disposal. This begins with an analysis of the product’s design features and other information provided by the manufacturer. By understanding how it’s made, its properties, and its cost, we build a strong foundation analysis of the product. Knowing how it should perform, its quality, and how long it should last.
The second stage is hands-on testing. Being experts in ping pong, we already have experience using a wide range of equipment. This is a luxury we take advantage of wherever possible. If we are unable to conduct a hands-on test of the product, we spend more time in the other stages of our review process.
Here’s one example of our hands-on testing:
The final stage of our review procedure is a comprehensive evaluation of product reviews from other players. What better way to learn how a product performs than having access to an extensive selection of first-person accounts? We tirelessly scour the net to compile player opinions and challenge each for credibility. Fortunately, product reviews are far more common now than when we started playing table tennis, making it easier for us to review.
For each product, we aim to highlight its strengths, flaws, and whether it is worth the investment. We also take this a step further by identifying what type of player may benefit from it the most, and offer similar alternatives.
Our Team
Alex’s routes in sport began with football. It wasn’t until his teens when he first discovered the wonderful world of ping pong. It required such skill and finesse — and he loved it. Dropping football, he solely dedicated himself to the sport in pursuit of ping pong mastery.
After years of training, his skills grew and he rose to become the top player in his county. Since that time, he has been fortunate enough to compete in national competitions and represent the University of Reading.
Alex loves table tennis strategy and is always looking for a competitive edge. This is what drove him to write strategy guides and product reviews. He takes great pride in spreading what he has learned and loves to coach fellow players. You can connect with him on LinkedIn, IG, or FB.
Eugene (Gene) Sandoval has been one of those guys who spent too many hours around ping pong tables in high school. However, soon enough, Gene understood that there is more to ping pong than having fun. That is how he started a journey that made Eugene one of the most experienced semi-professional ping pong players in the United States.
As the founder of the PingPongRuler, Eugene spends most of his time surrounded by ping pong tables and research. He always has this knack for coming up with new ping pong strategies and telling the good and bad equipment apart.
Gene would say that he cannot stop falling in love with ping pong, and you should know that he is not lying. Apart from ping pong, his interests include camping, survivalism, and general enthusiasm for sports. If you cannot find Gene near the ping pong table, he will be watching some superb clips on YouTube or engaging in a book about the history of sports. In addition to taking care of PingPongRuler, Eugene is the go-to guy for any doubts about professional ping pong.
